Nothing Really Matters
; 2023

Domaine de Boisbuchet, Lessac, France

Led by Aléa, this workshop explored mycelium as a living material, embracing impermanence and decay. Participants engaged with mycelium across its life cycle through harvesting, growing, and nurturing the organism, questioning dominant notions of durability in design. Working collectively, they cultivated a mycelium material library in the form of a garden, grown directly in the soil using Aléa’s Back to Dirt process. Each element traced the origin of its substrate to different locations across the Domaine de Boisbuchet, forming a site-specific landscape highlighting transformation, ephemerality and interdependence of living materials.
