Life in-between: Mycelium & Textiles; 2025
Domaine de Boisbuchet, Lessac, France

During this 10-day workshop, participants explored the relationship between mycelium and textiles across different scales, both material and metaphorical. Building on Aléa’s latest research, the workshop introduced mycelium as a living organism and material system capable of binding and transforming textile waste, forming new structures, and interacting with dyes. Through collective and individual experiments, participants prepared and inoculated discarded textiles, explored 2D and 3D applications, and grew patterns with mycelium. Together, the group cultivated a collective patchwork directly on the forest floor, allowing the material to grow in dialogue with its environment. Alongside making, participants observed local fungi, ecosystems, and material cycles. The workshop culminated in a final exhibition within the Aléa Garden Lab at Domaine de Boisbuchet.
